For the past few months, the Chinese tech giant has been facing some difficult time. While Huawei was sanctioned by U.S. commerce department and being banned from using Android, they went further to introduce their own operating system “Hongmeng, international known as Ark OS” which is said to be at alternative to Android.

On several occasions the company's chairman, Liang Hua had said that Huawei still prefers Google's operating system “Android” offers its own operating system “Hongmeng.” Irrespective of what we've heard so far that Huawei’s Hongmeng is faster than Android and iOS by 60 percent.

The Hongmeng OS is primarily developed for IoT devices that will reduce latency… In terms of smartphones, we are still using the Android operating system and ecosystem as a “first choice.” We haven’t decided yet if the Hongmeng OS can be developed as a smartphone operating system in the future — Liang Hua.

In a press conference held on Friday in Shenzhen, Liang Hua said that the Hongmeng OS was developed for IoT devices, and not smartphones. In terms of phones, Huawei prefers Android. If that is really the case, Huawei not only does not have a plan B, even though we were lead to believe that, but the future of its smartphone business is in total danger.

Of course, the U.S. recently eased the restrictions on Huawei and facilitated license approval for products and services which do not pose a threat to national security, but whether Android is among those or not is still not known.

As it is, Huawei still has access to AOSP, which is freely available, but without a valid license. Meanwhile, the company can not offer services from the Android ecosystem, which includes the Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube and other Google apps.
