Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Patch KB4517210, This Update May Install Automatically

Windows 10 version 1903 (updated in May 2019) is officially ready for large-scale deployment push, and Microsoft is now rolling out a new compatibility update patch to address third-party driver issues.

The Windows 10 KB4517210 patch is being deployed to some PCs via Windows Update and is automatically installed on PC devices that have not been upgraded to May 2019.

However, it can also be installed on a Windows 10 1903 PC to simplify the installation experience for future monthly patches and feature releases.

According to Microsoft, the Windows 10 patch KB4517210 has the following fixes:
  • Microsoft provides a third-party driver fix to avoid blocking upgrades and other issues when installing Windows updates.
  • Solved the problem that Windows generates other ESD files by re-downloading during the upgrade process. This change frees up your space and reduces network consumption.
  • Microsoft also solved a bug that could cause a black screen issue when you create a new virtual machine (VM).

Compatibility and reliability updates are usually released from time to time to address issues that prevent Windows 10 updates from being installed.

Windows Update should be able to automatically detect and install this patch without interfering with systems and applications. It's worth noting that you can't force this compatibility update to be installed on your PC.
