December 1st happens to be the end of Netflix support for some older Samsung smart TVs. However, this information came directly from Samsung official webpage. On the other hand, Netflix is sending out error messages directly to the TVs of affected customers.

The error message simply states that ‘Netflix will no longer be available on this device after December 1, 2019.’ Apart from the error message stating that Netflix is dropping support for some older devices ‘due to technical limitations,’ there's no further details explained.

Meanwhile, there's no much information concerning which older smart TV models will no longer be supported after December 1st. Samsung provided a link to Netflix’s list of compatible devices, but as a matter of fact, this is just a tutorial page that doesn’t entail much about device compatibility.

Samsung could barely do nothing to avoid whatever technical limitations that might prevent older Samsung smart TVs from accessing Netflix in the future.

Hence, this change doesn’t affect only Samsung-branded TVs but also other brands. So, Samsung is not being treated any differently; it’s not a special case and it’s not being singled out.

Whatever changes Netflix’s underlying systems might be going through, they don’t seem to go hand-in-hand with older hardware.
