After a gloomy year with the 2018 iPhone, Apple has returned to the iPhone 2019. However, Gene Munster, managing partner of Loup Ventures, believes that due to factors such as 5G network coverage in the US, the Apple's 5G iPhone is likely to have disappointing sales next year.
Apple has never been a timely pursuer of the next generation of networks. As the 3G era was developing, it was not until 2008 that Apple released the iPhone that supports this technology.
Apple's first iPhone with 4G support was also launched in 2013 with the iPhone 5. T-Mobile has now deployed 5G networks across the US, while other carriers are also gradually expanding their reach. Their 5G network, however, doesn't have any Apple iPhones that are compatible with 5G.
However, this problem does not stem from Apple. Apple's mobile phones will play a huge role in 5G, but it will take some time to promote and cover this new wireless network technology.
Gene Munster believes this will make Apple a bleak season again. Specifically, the sales of 5G iPhones will disappoint Apple investors.
Previously, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg predicted that only about 50% of Americans would own 5G phones by 2024. Piper Jaffray's survey in September also showed that only 23% Will pay for upgrades to 5G iPhones.
