Eric Xu who is Huawei’s rotating chairman has told the employees in a message that the Chinese tech giant earned a whopping $122 billion (850 billion Chinese yuan) in revenue in 2019.

While we are aware about the sanction the US commerce department placed on your company this early year, many believed that it would bring dark days for them. But the story took a different turn.

The latest revenue numbers are 18% increase over last year and have set a new record high. Huawei sold 240 million handsets in 2019, which is a considerable jump in comparison to 206 million devices sold in 2018.

Still, the US ban has impacted the company’s growth. According to Xu, the figures are lower than what they expected. If the ban continues to exist, it would hurt the growth even more and create a “difficult” environment for the company. Xu said that the company’s first priority for next year is survival.

While Trump administration has considered Huawei as a national security threat, its officials have also advised other nations like India to refrain from using Huawei’s 5G technology.

Still, the Chinese tech giant has grabbed a chance to participate in India’s 5G deployment trials in early 2020. It has joined the likes of other telecom equipment manufacturers, including Ericson, Cisco, and Samsung, who will also take part in the trial.

Speaking of future-proofing itself, Huawei is also developing its operating system called HarmonyOS that will help the company if Google’s Android gets out of the picture.
