Huawei Hongmeng started to work hard! Strive to become the 5th largest operating system by the end of next year

Of course, it's nothing new that the Chinese smartphone maker doesn't make use of Android anymore due to the ban placed on them by US commerce department.

Therefore, Huawei launched its self-developed operating system "Hongmeng" at the developer conference in August this year, and took the lead in applying it to smart products.

According to media reports, Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei ’s consumer business software, said in a theme sharing at Huawei ’s global flagship store, Shenzhen Vientiane Tiandi Store, that next year Huawei’s other terminal products will be equipped with mobile phones, tablets and computers. Hence, Hongmeng system will be promoted simultaneously overseas.

Hongmeng's comprehensive open source system will also officially open in August next year. However, he also emphasized that Huawei's mobile phones will still choose Android, and Hongmeng will only be used if it is really not available.

At present, it is still unclear whether Huawei phones will be completely unavailable for Android in future. In November, the US Department of Commerce approved a license application for Windows to sell popular software to Huawei, and Huawei's laptops will be allowed to carry Windows 10 operating system.

Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business in September this year, said that if Huawei’s mobile phones continue to disable Google services, Huawei will consider using the Hongmeng system. The P40 that will be released in March next year may be the first phone equipped with the Hongmeng system.

In addition to that, JoyTan, Huawei’s senior vice president of public affairs, quoted a report from market research company CounterpointResearch that Hongmeng is expected to surpass Linux by the end of next year as the fifth most popular smart digital terminal operating system.

Earlier, Ren Zhengfei also said in an interview that it should not take two or three years for Huawei to turn Hongmeng into an operating system comparable to Apple.
