At WWDC 2020, Apple announced iOS 14, macOS, iPadOS 14, and tvOS 14, promising great improvements that could bring about the same gaming experience as when playing on consoles or PCs.

Apple unveiled new details about upcoming operating systems earlier this week, including a host of new functions that support gaming controllers, such as button assignment, rumble or motion control. So far the developer has pre-written code in his games, the player can change the buttons on the handle or feel the vibration when playing.

For titles that support Sony's DualShock 4 controller, developers can set the Lightbar at the top to change colors based on the amount of remaining blood of the game's characters. They can also allow users to use the touchpad on DualShock 4 to track fingers.

That's not too new for console gamers, but until now, most of the features available on consoles didn't appear on iOS, tvOS or macOS.

These updates are small parts of the series of gaming improvements that Apple brings to this year's software versions. A new Game Center makes it easier to find friends to play with and access rankings and achievements.

Apple said that it also supports Microsoft's Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 controllers to help them work with iOS-based games.

However, Apple does not disclose whether the Sony PlayStation 5 or Microsoft Xbox Series X controllers will work with the new operating systems.

In addition to supporting console handles, Apple's iPads will significantly improve the ability to operate with keyboard and mouse.

Meanwhile, Apple's iPadOS is compatible with keyboard and mouse, but the experience is still not really smooth. For example, players cannot press multiple buttons on the keyboard at the same time. This update from Apple needs to address those.

Apple introduced its new operating systems at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) online earlier this week. All these updates will be released later this year and are completely free. Still, developers are now able to start building new features into their games.
