The union cabinet on October 6 approved the signing of an agreement with Japan that's aimed toward enhancing cooperation in emerging technologies, the safety of critical infrastructure, cyberspace and to mitigate threats(cyberattacks) to communication networks, the government mentioned.
It said India and Japan are committed to an "open, interoperable, free, fair, secure, and reliable" cyberspace setting and can work in direction of promoting the Internet as an engine of innovation and economic development.
The approval to the pact by the cabinet comes in the midst of rising concerns over cyber attacks from China, notably after India banned around 200 mobile apps belongs to China.
"The union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval for signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of cybersecurity between India and Japan," the government authorities mentioned in a press release. The approval to the pact by the cabinet comes in the midst of growing concerns over cyber attacks from China, particularly after India banned over 100 cell apps with Chinese links.
It mentioned the MoC will improve cooperation in the area of the cyber world and emerging technologies and supply for protection of critical infrastructure and sharing of data on cybersecurity threats as well as on finest practices to counter them.
"India and Japan commit to an open, interoperable, free, fair, secure and reliable cyberspace environment and to promote the Internet as an engine of innovation, economic growth, and trade and commerce that would be consistent with their respective domestic laws and international obligations, and with their wide-ranging strategic partnership," it mentioned.
It stated both sides, by the MoC, affirm cooperation within the worldwide arena including in the United Nations. The pact will even present for sharing strategies and best practices to promote the integrity of the provision chain of data and communication technology (ICT) products.
