The corporate became suspicious after some packages had been shipped with a weight that was actually different than anticipated.
A group of Amazon employees is allegedly stealing thousands of iPhones from the online retailer store, reports iPadizate.

The 5 employees worked at a logistics center in Madrid, Spain, and used their positions in the delivery department to perpetrate the theft.

The theft was found by Amazon, which initiated the investigation as quickly as possible. The corporate became suspicious after some packages had been shipped with a weight that was actually different than anticipated. Amazon set up hidden cameras to establish the reason for these weight discrepancies.

Amazon found that staff was intercepting packages right earlier than they left the warehouse. The 5 employees would remove the precise package contents and exchange them with an iPhone 12 or an iPhone 12 Pro.

Amazon believes the employees had been working with an accomplice who was putting orders via the online retailer's website.

3 employees were arrested by Police while leaving work, while one was still doing his work when he was apprehended. The 5th employee turned himself in following the other arrests.

The employees had ten iPhones in their possession and a lot of IMEI stickers. The stickers presumably were removed from the iPhone containers(box) to hide the theft.

All 5 staff have been fired from Amazon while the corporate investigates whether or not other workers were concerned about this iPhone stealing ring.

It's estimated that the group of employees stole as much as €500,000 ($592,000) in iPhones. iPhones and many other Apple products are popular targets for thieves due to their excessive resale value and popularity.
