“Today’s authorization presents a new, low-risk treatment choice that makes use of digital technology in an effort to provide temporary aid from sleep disturbance associated to nightmares,” Carlos Peña, director of the Office of Neurological and Physical Medicine Devices within the FDA’s Center for Gadgets and Radiological Health, mentioned in a report. The gadget was granted via an expedited process with the FDA's so-called "Breakthrough Devices" program.

The recently authorized, prescription-based gadget is known as NightWare, and through the Apple Watch, makes use of information on body motion and coronary heart rate during sleep to create a sleep profile status, per the release.

When NightWare gadget detects a nightmare based mostly on its analyses, it releases mild vibrations “to arouse but not awaken the wearer,” per the corporate’s webpage blog, to interrupt the nightmare but permit for continued sleep without any disturbance.
