Google has recently been adding many nifty features to improve the user as well as the creator’s experience on YouTube. We lately noticed the corporate add a real-time subscriber count to YouTube Studio on the desktop client.

Now, the corporate is testing a characteristic to automatically detect and show a list of products or related products featured in uploaded videos.

The corporate reportedly tested a previous version of the characteristic back in 2020. However, the period of that test was short. Furthermore, Google even stopped the testing mid-way.

Now, as per an official update by Google, the corporate is rolling out the characteristic to more users, expanding it to “folks watching videos within the US.”

Coming to the characteristic, it would automatically detect an inventory of products or related products recorded in a video. Following the detection, YouTube will show the products “in between the recommended videos, to viewers scrolling beneath the video player.” The corporate additional adds that “the purpose is to help folks discover more videos and details about those products on YouTube.”

So, after the characteristic rolls out, YouTube viewers will be capable to discover various products featured in videos of their favourite creators, even when the creators don't provide the links for them. In this manner, viewers will get the chance to buy the products right from YouTube, very similar to users on Instagram.

As of March 22, the characteristic is in the early testing phase. It may not make its approach to all users anytime soon. However, with YouTube actively testing the characteristic in the US, we expect a worldwide rollout sometime later this year.
