Rumor has it that Rockstar is no longer working on a remaster for either of GTA IV and RDR. The information however, seem to have come from a reliable source with more credibility on Rockstar’s current and future plans.

TezFunz2 has taken to his Twitter handle to tweet regarding the update. According to him, he said that a remaster for both GTA IV and RDR was on the table a few years ago, but the publisher decided to pull the plug on both projects.

It is not clear as to why the Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption remasters were scrapped during development, though TezFunz2 speculated that it may have something to do with Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition getting a poor reception from the media and gaming community.

It’s likely that the Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption 1 remasters weren’t in a good shape, much like the case with GTA Trilogy: DE. Therefore Rockstar Games may have opted to avoid further controversy and cancel the development of both projects. It’s rather odd, particularly in the case of RDR 1, given how all of the latter’s environmental assets are already present in RDR 2’s open world.

Earlier, it was assumed by fans that Red Dead Redemption 2 would receive paid DLC that would incorporate the first game into the package. However, that didn’t happen, and now, it seem that Rockstar has decided to scrape out the project.

Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It is the second game in the Red Dead series and a spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver from 2004.

It tells the story of John Marston, a former criminal whose wife and kid are held captive by the government as payment for his services as a hired gun. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring his ex-gang members to justice. The game takes place in the year 1911, during the decline of the American frontier.
