Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose is the first and only additional content that will expand and continue the story of Resident Evil Village and the Winters Family.
The DLC, set 16 years after the Village finale, will put players in the shoes of Rose, the daughter of Ethan and Mia, as she tries to get rid of her powers inherited from the Mutamicete once and for all. The expansion will also mark the conclusion of the unfortunate family saga.
In an interview with IGN Japan granted during the Tokyo Game Show 2022, director Kento Kinoshita said that Capcom is writing the story of Shadows of Rose to conclude the Winters family saga.
This means that in whatever direction the series continues, one must expect the arrival of new characters or the return of some familiar faces.
Indeed, several players, for some time, have been clamoring for the return of the historical characters of the saga. The sporadic appearance of rock-smashing good Chris Redfield is not enough according to some players.
For this part of the audience, Capcom should bring back some of the main protagonists of Resident Evil. First of all, the former STARS Jill Valentine, who disappeared after the events of the fifth chapter and mentioned in a couple of lines in the sixth.
And what happened to Leon S. Kennedy after the events of Tall Oaks? Has he permanently retired? Impossible to give an answer at the moment.
The main problem with returning key characters to the Resident Evil universe, however, is time. Bringing Chris, Jill, and Leon back to the scene later in Shadows of Rose would mean players being seniors.
Capcom is unlikely to proceed in that direction. Sure, there is still that time frame from the end of Village to Shadows of Rose but that stretch of history could be deepened in the DLC itself.
Unfortunately Capcom at the moment is not unbalanced on what will be the future of these characters and of the saga in general.
During the Tokyo Game Show producer Masachika Kawata was asked what fans can expect in the future but the man could not provide any clues. "I'm sorry but at the moment I can't share any future plans regarding Rersident Evil in any way."
Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose will arrive on October 28, 2022 and will bring with it some interesting news. The new adventure, in addition to being completely in the third person, will also allow you to use some of Rose's powers to make your way through the dangerous “Realm of Consciousness”, a sort of alternative version of the village that is the background to the main story of the game.
