Xiaomi recently announced a Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept with a camera customized to fit a high-quality Leica lens, turning the device into a miniature "camera".
The highlight of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the 1-inch sensor camera using the Sony IMX989 sensor. In this concept, Xiaomi redesigned the camera assembly and developed a complete lens mount that can accommodate most M-mount Leica lenses.

Xiaomi says that currently only about 10 prototypes have been submitted to the media. The product is shipped with the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f / 1.4 ASPH lens worth about $5995.
When attached to the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH lens it looks like this. However, since the sensor of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is only 1 inch in size, the focal length multiplier will be at 2.7, so the 35mm lens mounted on the body will give the same angle of view with the 95mm focal length.
After experiencing, technology reviewers in China said that Xiaomi 12S Ultra when attached with Leica lenses gives a very good image quality, Leica's characteristic colors and narrow field of view effect, making the photos taken no different when shooting from a dedicated camera.

Li Bai Tuzi (李白兔子), a freelance photographer and Image Vision magazine editor, used the Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept version, combined with 3 Miyazaki 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/lens lenses. 1.0 and Leica 8.5cm 1:1.5 to capture images with shallow depth of field and beautiful bokeh.

With a large lens aperture, the 1-inch sensor of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra easily captures a narrow depth of field, rounded bokeh, and some photos with a swirling bokeh effect. Because the lenses use old technology, the image quality is not the best, it can be seen that the resulting image appears a lot of aberration, the image is blurred (soft) when at a large aperture. The use of Xiaomi 12S Ultra also helps users to edit photos immediately after taking them with dozens of exclusive color filters.
With the photos shown, it is undeniable that the image quality from Xiaomi 12S Ultra with 1-inch sensor is extremely good. When combined with specialized camera lenses, in this case Leica, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is like a "tiger with more wings".
It is not clear at this time whether Xiaomi intends to commercialize this product, as well as whether Xiaomi will expand support for lenses using other popular mount types on the market.
