Microsoft has referred to the rumored GTA 6 release timing in its latest response to the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into its ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard, arguing that Activision Games has a market share.
The proportion is not high, and the acquisition is not enough to harm competition. As a means of defence, Microsoft cited other major games and publishers, including Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive, with which Microsoft said "the highly anticipated GTA VI is expected to be released in 2024."
While it sounds a lot like Microsoft has confirmed the release date of GTA 6, Microsoft is actually citing a previous report from Bloomberg that claimed that "current and former Rockstar employees estimate that GTA 6 is at least 10 years away from launch." It has two years and is expected to be released in 2024."
It's entirely possible that Microsoft has knowledge of Rockstar's plans for GTA 6, but it's also possible that it's purely citing public reports and rumors.
AndroBliz understands that neither Rockstar nor its parent company Take-Two has confirmed the release date of "GTA 6", or even the target year.
However, the fact that Microsoft revealed its release date in an official report is notable in itself, and Microsoft will do anything to make the acquisition a success.
Rockstar previously called September's massive GTA 6 leak "very disappointing," but assured fans that it wouldn't affect the game's development.
