Elon Musk recently pointed out on Twitter that he was the product leader of the original Tesla Roadster sports car and led its design in response to a misleading statement on Twitter.
Twitter user Broe tweeted: "Remind Musk's diehard fans, these people are the outstanding people who founded Tesla. Elon is just a buy-in A-round investor, and then invest enough in the company destruction until those people were pushed out, and then he spent ten years telling everyone that he founded Tesla."
His tweet was accompanied by a photo of Tesla's two co-founders, which read: "This is a photo of Mark Tarpenning and Martin Eberhard. They founded Tesla to Just in case you thought it was someone else."
In response to the above tweet, user @SamTwits responded, "This is so misleading. Elon Musk invested almost all the money in the A round. At that time, Tesla was just a name and three people with no money, they just registered the company 6 months ago.”
And Elon Musk responded to @SamTwits tweet, saying that he was the product owner of the original Roadster and led its design. "Eberhard was rich, and he could have risked his own money, but he didn't want to," Elon Musk said. “Art Center College of Design gave me an honorary degree for my work on the original Tesla Roadster,” he added.
Elon Musk also noted that he acquired a trademark to use Tesla Motors as the initial name, and he later acquired the Tesla.com URL.
Tesla was incorporated in 2003 by Eberhard and Talpenning. In 2004, Tesla raised $7.5 million in Series A funding, $6.5 million of which came from Elon Musk. Ian Wright joined Tesla a few months after its founding, and JB Strauble joined in 2004.
AndroBliz has learned that in a 2009 lawsuit settlement between Eberhard and Tesla, all five of the aforementioned individuals, including Elon Musk, were allowed to refer to themselves as Tesla co-founders.

More importantly, I was head of product and led the design of the original Roadster. Eberhard was wealthy and could have risked his money, but was unwilling to do so.
