With iOS 16.2, Apple has extended the AirDrop sharing limit with "everyone" that was first launched in China in the iOS 16.1.1 update.
Currently, AirDrop has three options: "Off", "Contacts Only", and "Everyone". The current "Everyone" option allows users to receive files and photos from all other nearby iPhone users via AirDrop, but in iOS 16.2 this option will change to "Everybody in 10 Minutes".
When it was first launched in China, this change made it impossible for users in the country to enable AirDrop for everyone, including unknown users, for unlimited time.
According to the panel, the reason the company applied the time restriction on AirDrop was to prevent protesters in China from using the sharing feature to distribute posters against Xi Jinping and the government.
