Unreal Engine 5.1 Implements Features Like Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadowmaps, and Temporal Super-Resolution in Fortnite
Epic Games released, this Sunday (04), Chapter 4 of Fortnite. Along with this, the publisher promoted a graphic update in the game, which now has the new features of Unreal Engine 5.1.

With this upgrade, players can look forward to features like Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadowmaps, and Temporal Super-Resolution. All of them are available in PS5, Xbox Series, PC and mobile versions of the game.

Nanite offers highly detailed architectural geometries, meaning buildings are rendered in real-time with millions of polygons. That means every brick, stone, flower, blade of grass and wooden plank is individually modeled.

Lumen, on the other hand, implements high-quality ray tracing on water and glossy materials. Not only that, but it also provides real-time global illumination at 60 FPS.

Virtual Shadow Maps bring more detailed shading. In other words, all bricks, leaves and even small character details (hats, for example) will have shadows. Finally, Temporal Super-Resolution (TSR) is an enhancement to anti-aliasing that enables high-quality visuals at a high frame rate.

To give a demonstration of the graphical beauty of Fortnite after the update with Unreal Engine 5.1, Epic Games released screenshots of some environments from Season 1 of the battle royale.

In addition to the graphic update, Epic Games also detailed all the news from Fortnite Season 1: Chapter 4. The Battle Pass will feature Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher) and Doom Slayer (DOOM) skins.
